For over a century, Berlin has been home to the papermaking industry. In March of 2006, Fraser Papers announced that it was permanently closing its pulp mill here. Later that same year, North American Dismantling Co. began the process of removing the buildings and other facilities on the 120 acre site in the center of the city. On September 15th, 2007 we witnessed the felling of three of the four smokestakes that had dominated Berlin's skyline for so many years. What remains today is the massive recovery boiler and 320 foot stack near Community Field. A proposal to convert this boiler to a 50-70 MW biomass burning power plant has become the focus of much debate over the future of that site and its long-term impacts on the city.

Citizens for a New Vision is a group of Berlin residents and business owners who want to ensure a bright, clean and prosperous future for Berlin, NH. The group includes local merchants, residents, and civic leaders who  see the appropriate use of the mill site as key to the city's success in the 21st century.
